Edit survey data

  • Updated

You can edit a survey's data in Ecobot Collector or Ecobot Manager, but in only one place at a time. Check the survey out where you want to work, make your changes, then check it in so it can be edited elsewhere. This article covers the editing. For how checkout, check-in and sync work, see How syncing works: check-in, checkout, and sync.

Edit a survey in Collector

In your survey list, the icon at the top left of each survey shows whether you can edit it. A green unlocked icon means Working: it's checked out to your device. A gray lock means Locked: someone else has it, or it's checked out in Manager. No icon means it's available to check out.

  1. Open the survey and check it out: tap Manage Survey, turn on Check Out Survey, then tap Sync & Check Out Survey.
  2. Tap a sampling point to open its form, and make your changes.
  3. When you're done, check the survey in: tap Manage Survey, turn on Check In Survey, then tap Sync & Check In Survey.

Your edits sync to the cloud automatically whenever your device has Wi-Fi or cellular data. Anything highlighted in orange hasn't synced yet. Syncing doesn't check the survey in, so check it in when you're finished.

If the survey is locked, tap Manage Survey to see who has it checked out and where, and ask them to check it in.

Edit a survey in Manager

Check the survey out

On the Surveys page, the line under a survey's name shows who has it checked out and where. You can edit a survey in Manager only when it's checked out to you in Manager.

To check a survey out, open it and select Check out at the top right. The top right then shows Checked out by you and a Check in button.

Edit a point

  1. Open the survey's Points tab.
  2. Select the point's name. You can also select the ⋮ menu on its row, then Edit point.

  3. Use the tabs at the top of the form to move between Site, Summary, Hydrology, Vegetation and Soil.
  4. Select Save data at the bottom right. Data doesn't save automatically in Manager. If Manager signs you out while you're away, your changes stay on the page until you sign in again and save. See Can't sign in.

To move to another point without going back to the list, use the point menu or the previous and next buttons next to Save data.

To change top-of-form information on several points at once, use Bulk edit points. It changes only top-of-form information. To change field data, edit each point.

Check the survey in

When you're done, select Check in at the top right of the survey, so a colleague or another device can pick it up.

Some teams QA by reviewing the filled-out USACE forms or the survey CSV. If you work that way, make your corrections in Ecobot, then generate the files again.
