Collector crashes or freezes

  • Updated

If Ecobot Collector crashes, freezes, or won't open, try these steps in order. Collector saves every field to your device as you type, so restarting the app or the device doesn't lose your work.

Don't uninstall or reinstall Collector until everything has synced. Uninstalling or reinstalling loses any data that hasn't synced, including points and photos. Sync and check in first (step 6).

  1. Force close Collector and reopen it.
  2. Update Collector from the App Store or Google Play. Updates often include fixes.
  3. Restart the device.
  4. Free up storage. Photos take a lot of space; a nearly full device can make any app unstable. Closing other apps running in the background also helps.
  5. Check the device is supported: iOS or iPadOS 16 or later, or Android 12 or later. See Supported devices, OS versions, and updating Ecobot.
  6. Reinstall, safely. If it still crashes, make sure nothing is left only on this device before you reinstall. Use one of these:
    • Sign out of Collector with a good connection. This syncs and checks in every survey, photos included.
    • Check in each survey: open it, tap Manage Survey, turn on Check In Survey, and tap the button at the bottom. Wait until the panel says "You're all caught up".
    • Sync All Surveys (gear icon › Sync All Surveys) syncs every survey's data at once, but not photos. Send photos from each survey with Manage SurveySend Photos To Manager.
Then delete and reinstall the app.

If Collector won't stay open long enough to check surveys in, stop and contact support before you reinstall.

Still stuck?

Get help from Ecobot support. Include your device, its OS version, your Collector version, and what you were doing when it crashed. A screen recording helps.
