Field work can be unpredictable—whether your device takes a dive into a swamp or gets replaced without a second thought, you might be wondering what happens to your Ecobot projects. Don’t worry—the Ecobot Customer Success Team is here to help. We can perform a force check-in of projects from the missing device to get things moving again.
How Ecobot Stores Your Data
When you check out a project in Ecobot Collector (mobile app), your data is stored locally on the device. This allows field teams to work offline—without cellular or internet access.
Project data stays on the device until it is explicitly saved and checked in, sending it to the cloud.
This includes:
-
Points
-
Photos
-
Map Features
What Happens During a Force Check-In
If a project is force checked-in by our team before the original device has saved it, any unsaved local data—including photos and field entries—will be lost permanently. The cloud version will be restored to the last successfully saved state.
What You Should Do First
To avoid data loss, we recommend the following steps before requesting a force check-in:
-
Try to locate the original device and project owner.
-
Have them open the Ecobot app, tap Save and Check-In the project.
-
This ensures all data is synced to the cloud safely.
-
-
Make it a habit: Save and Check-In projects at the end of each field day.
-
This prevents data loss in case of lost or damaged devices.
-
-
Sync photos before check-in.
-
Photo syncing is a separate step—ensure it's complete to capture your full dataset.
