Photos in Ecobot Collector

  • Updated

Ecobot Collector takes photos with their location, date, time and compass direction saved, and syncs them to Ecobot Manager, where you can organize them and include them in photo reports. This article shows you how to take, review and edit photos in Collector, and what information each photo keeps.

Take a photo

Tap the camera icon at the top right. It's there on every screen of a survey, so you can take a photo at any time. Then choose Take Photo to use the camera, or Camera Roll to add a photo already on your phone.

  • If you're working in a sampling point, the photo is linked to that point, whichever part of the form you're on, such as Vegetation.
  • To take a photo that isn't linked to a point, take it from the survey's own screen instead.

What each photo keeps

Collector saves this information with every photo, and keeps it when the photo syncs to Manager:

  • the date and time it was taken
  • its location (latitude and longitude)
  • the compass direction
  • the elevation

If a GNSS receiver is paired with Ecobot, the location comes from the receiver. Otherwise it comes from your phone, so make sure location access is turned on for Ecobot in your phone's settings.

Review and edit photos

  1. Open the survey or point.
  2. Tap the Photos tab, next to the points count.
  3. Tap a photo to see it full screen, with its details.
  4. To change its title, description or point, or mark it as a favorite, tap the edit icon, make your changes, then tap Save.

Tip: pinch on the Photos tab to zoom in or out.

For sorting, filtering and photo reports back in the office, see Photos in Ecobot Manager.

Questions and answers

Does Ecobot record location automatically?
Yes. Ecobot records the location from your phone or a connected GNSS receiver whenever you take a photo or record a point. See Location data in Ecobot.

Why is my location accuracy poor?
Some devices, especially Wi-Fi-only tablets, don't have a GPS chip. They estimate location from Wi-Fi or the network, which is much less accurate. Check your device's specifications for "GPS" or "GNSS".

Can I use an external GNSS receiver?
Yes. Ecobot works with most Bluetooth GNSS receivers. See Compatible GNSS devices.

Do photos keep their location when I share them?
Photos taken in Collector keep their location data. Sending them by text message, or by email at a reduced size, can remove it.
